I create ceramics heavily influenced by my background in illustration and my love of life drawing, as well as feelings of empowerment around women’s bodies. Having only been making pots for a few years and being mostly self-taught, I find the medium challenging but rewarding in terms of its volatility and powerful presence that is created by large works. I love to play with the combination of a tactile, full-bodied surface with delicately drawn intertwined figures as well as more expressive, abstract brushwork. I throw my ceramics with local clay and take inspiration from my life drawings and the people around me. The thought and effort that goes into throwing pottery means I regard each raw piece as an artwork within its own right rather than as a mere canvas.
